Hand Me Downs/Edge of Indigo

by Phoenix Mundy

/
1.
I sat down with a clock with no hands everything dried up from pools into sands as the rays shimmer down you forget your own thirst wrapped up inside you and ready to burst Got us all lined up, perpetual chain they peer through the window of the carriage of their train sending hand me downs, already too small for each piece of paper we scramble and maul Oh my little darling you'll be fine cross my arms to my chest, no holy wine we'll wade out to sea, you and me there's no storm - I tell you home is debris
2.
Cut loose, forget the feeling of being shrouded by acid lights, ever-reeling, choking the sky Early starts and coffee in cars watching the days fleet by, you're regressing still sewn in the haze Won't spend my days in a fitting room where lights are harsh and stare and loom and coax my body from its gloom and carry on and on I'll grit my teeth and serve until the day comes where the air stands still The trees are tired but they're our frame another day, another dawn without a name Tail of callow pessimism, edge of indigo will turn to jaded cynicism, slumped at your window
