Punch Bowl

1.
I was sheltered, I was blind Should have seen a wandering mind but I clung to words like clouds to sky held by a dwindling lullaby and I held my tongue when I felt the shake Wore yellow to the funeral wake and it was oh so quiet, but how the ceiling smiled I built my darkness and you'll see I had an ocean at my feet I sat at the mouth of a wave, waiting for a fish I couldn't save The ceiling came down and the walls caved in the echo of stained glass, shattering like kisses on a dusky field in June Behind the shoulder of every tree, there's a lady who waits, beckoning, from head to toe in the fabrics of regret

Cocooned 05:07
Hitch your ticking thoughts and creep upstairs Tear them into groups and pairs and place them in a closet where moths adorn, wear your feathers flickering by And the wind that takes them in Only a breath to break them in Like lightning they come, strip search you in your home and then you're done Still, in the space where you have a voice Fractious soundtrack, played by choice In your cocoon you blush at every stranger passing by But there's no rush The seeds are sewn and the echoes will have grown Little lotus wraps its stem around you, humming in your ear it grounds you churning the dust that surrounds you It's not a crime to keep yourself to yourself To place your voice high on a shelf, unless it withers from neglect Beyond the point of resurrection There's no rush The seeds are sewn and the echoes will have grown
3.
Nematode 04:15
Go ahead, hitch a ride for the sake of it Second-guessing your emotion, what to make of it Did it eat you up, couldn't you shake it? Please stop, don't run, we'll make it. It's a lesson to be a learned, a fragile snake's bite Hours crying out and clawing at the moonlight and you breathe deep, tell yourself to sit tight Chain your bed to wasted dreams for just another night. I'll tell you, he's the son of an earthquake and I'm the daughter of the sea that trembles under its shake. Immersed in water til my mind aches The weeping willow bends and breaks It's a lesson to be a learned, a fragile snake's bite Hours crying out and clawing at the moonlight and you breathe deep, tell yourself to sit tight Chain your bed to wasted dreams for just another night.
4.
You have a heart like the aching sky For every bruise, there's an alibi You're angry that we walk with thieves That blood is spilled and no-one grieves I'll cut the rope and I won't look back Pull my bones off this lonely track and at the end, is your soul still blue and black? You're on a mission to lose your nose With words you plant a seed that grows Well after all, the wind still blows so I'll pull the thorns right off this rose
5.
Washing Line 05:24
I was halfway home on a crazy train Packed your bags and upped your game I shed my skin on your knife wide-eyed, seduced by life I hung my heart on a washing line to be whittled by wind, subdued by time I've been wading in a river since May and the tide's too strong
6.
Seven Miles 04:38
Seven miles un-clouds your head Cliffs loom down, rivers shed Little one I'll hold you tight Take you dancing in the night Down by the pool where crystal drops cascade wind meets trees, autumn leaves are played breathe the light for which you bowed and prayed Patch the fabric, shuddering, you frayed There's a raven up ahead Seven miles til he'll be fed feathers worn and broken in One more mile til he can sing Down by the pool where crystal drops cascade wind meets trees, autumn leaves are played breathe the light for which you bowed and prayed Patch the fabric, shuddering, you frayed
7.
Our acid shadows bleaching the ground it shivers and shakes and starts to pound and trees withdraw, day by day with our brushes we came, to paint this town grey One ragged breath and she'll be done Her bones contorting one by one and as we laze in our beds, shrouded by sleep her saddened eyes burn and weep Now her soul's got a cold and it's making her old her tired limbs, teeming with mould She's helpless to those with a hunger for gold and her dwindling blood is extracted and sold
8.
Beachcomber 05:24
Heard a leaking and looked up to see you falter, edge of cup Your feet estranged, bedraggled by the rain My arms open to catch you crawling back again The sign that led me through a door and left me washed up on your shore No hope for swimming Cradled by a wave One side water, one side air Eyes tangle, foot meets snare Give a little bit and leave me bare Say I'm so twisted, you will see That there's far better fate than me and you really must hate me, but I'd love for you to wait for me Now all my strings are cut, I'm just dancing on a rut No point putting up a fight In this broken, bitter night A faded whisper in a shell Inside a corner of your hell, I was tied by pretty string encased in feathers of a wing and in its shade, I was a child again The sign that led me through a door and left me washed up on your shore No hope for swimming Cradled by a wave One side water, one side air Eyes tangle, foot meets snare Give a little bit and leave me bare Say I'm so twisted, you will see That there's far better fate than me and you really must hate me, but I'd love for you to wait for me Now all my strings are cut, I'm just dancing on a rut No point putting up a fight In this broken, bitter night

Bound by chains with placard names Headless suits, loose in a maze Oh, something tear our eyes away from this monotony, we sway A record, stuck Static buzz, and seeds are sprouting on the cusp But we're a race subdued by lust In facile games, we place our trust Let us out, unplug the coils from our lungs Drain us out, til the ocean's newly-found Take you down, fall as ashes to the ground The city beckons, lights that wink Tower falters, on the brink We were born in line to sink Ship in a bottle, asked to drink A record, stuck Static buzz, and seeds are sprouting on the cusp But we're a race subdued by lust In facile games, we place our trust Let us out, unplug the coils from our lungs Drain us out, til the ocean's newly-found Take you down, fall as ashes to the ground
10.
Caught on the cusp and dragged in Eyes a cage, fought to sing Now the sun, it slides away Can't keep the dogs at bay Give you hands that wander, eyes that ache said the Sculptor to the Clay Blues came knocking, swept away now edges start to fray Sculptor crumbled, so did clay Faces sunken, eyes grew grey Shown a clay heart how to beat then turned away, with weary feet
11.
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off Learn the lessons you learned then forgot Now just tie your shoes and take a little step Take a deep breath and ignore the rest Now your eyes are resting, your hair's untied Ran out of places you thought you could hide all your letters, your pens and your anecdotes You left them to fester, they clawed at your throat I'll lay my cloths onto the ground of chalk and debris bathe in the fog that surrounds us, so aged and free and say that you won't, and say that you will until I sink again but dandelion seeds are going and I'll be running with them All your sadness and rage floats away page by page and the days, ever-shortening, are numbed to your ways the wheel keeps on spinning, you wax and you wane Joining the queue to be dosed up again I'll lay my cloths onto the ground of chalk and debris bathe in the fog that surrounds us, so aged and free and say that you won't, and say that you will until I sink again but dandelion seeds are going and I'll be running with them
